Let's help Microsoft - What to you is NEXT-GENERATION?

Alright, you know what guys, I'm so sick of all of these gaming journalists telling us what is and what is NOT NEXT GENERATION. To tell you the truth I don't think these journalists care about gaming anymore. They rush through Kameo and say that it's too short (when they themselves didn't even bother to enjoy the ride), they say that Perfect Dark Zero is just another shooter (when another shooter, entirely comprised of CG, is what they claim to be 'next-gen'--KILLZONE 2 for the PS3), and they say that Project Gotham Racing 3 is just another racing game with good graphics (and they were DROOLING over a movie of Gran Turismo running supposedly on the PS3).

They claim that 'graphics arent everything' but can't help but say that Gears of War will be GOTY simply because it looks cool. I have NOTHING against GOW -- i think that game is going to be good too -- my only point being that, why do journalists 'flip flop' like that, whining about how they want some kind of gameplay dynamic that's totally new, but they go all ga-ga over great graphics.

People, there is seriously something wrong with the gaming industry today.

So, how do we define what is truly the next-generation of gaming? Is it simply great graphics? Is it having some kind of gameplay dynamic that's never been done before? Is it having a control interface that is radically different from what is available today?

What about other ideas applied to old ones? How does one make a better first-person-shooter? How does one make a racing game interesting again? How about action-adventure games?

I think a better way to think of how to improve FPS/Racing/Action games is, what about those games did you always hate? Stupid AI? Too few enemies? The quest/mission doesn't feel EPIC enough? The racing gets boring after a while?

I offer this thread so that everyone can share their ideas--maybe somehow we can help Microsoft create better games that are truly TRULY NEXT-GENERATION. Yeah, yeah, I know that MS probably has so many people already working on this very problem 24/7, but you know what, it's time that we gamers help build and define what is truly NEXT GENERATION. What do we want to play tomorrow? Say it here.

(As for me, I'm still thinking about what qualifies as my 'dream game', and will post it here soon. And no, I will not sue MS if they consider my idea(s). I have no plans to work in the gaming industry anyway; and judging from where I live I wouldn't be able to sue them if I wanted to!)

Gamers based in the Philippines: How to get in Xbox Live

NOTE: This article has recently been updated (as of August 12, 2006). Singapore no longer lets you input '00000' as your zip code. Please see below for alternate zip codes. So you're a Filipino living in the Philippines with a brand-spanking new Xbox 360. You've heard about all the wonderful stories on Xbox Live. You happen to have a pretty good broadband connection. One day, you try out the Xbox Live sign-up options on your 360, and you find out to your dismay that your country is NOT listed. What do you do? Now, you can probably enjoy your 360 without live at all, but I have to tell you: YOU ARE MISSING OUT. As Peter Moore said in the recent MS Press Conference: "Having your 360 connected to Xbox Live is as vital as having your computer connected to the Internet". He is so damned right. I've been playing on Xbox Live for almost a year now (both on my original Xbox and the Xbox 360). Essentially I found out all of this with a little bit of research, a lit...

Lost Odyssey Theme Song - "What You Are" by Sheena Easton

I've uploaded the theme song for Lost Odyssey in YouTube. Check out the video below: At first, I wasn't so into the song but when I heard it in full it grows on you. The song is actually quite beautiful. It was sung by Sheena Easton. With the lyrics from Hironobu Sakaguchi and the composition by Nobuo Uematsu. Very moving song, specially once you understand the lyrics. Below are the lyrics for the song "What You Are" by Sheena Easton When you touch me It feels just like a dream With the warmth that's in your eyes When you look at me I hear your voice beside me It whispers to me I can't hide how it makes me feel The shyness you see I may never Understand how deep it goes But I know how I feel What I hold deep in my heart There's just no way to stop this It's hopeless but true I feel this love More than anything So what more can I do You know I thought I would be much stronger than I am But then I feel the boldness that's inside my heart Just melt aw...

Tips for new Lost Odyssey players: How to beat Grilgan and Bogimoray

Seeing that many people are already getting the game, some might be having trouble with the first and second real boss (the first machine you face doesn't really 'count' as a boss): To the ones who have made it through, post your best tips for those two bosses here. My first, major tip: Don't power-level or grind. You'll ruin the game for yourself and there's no strategy there....you won't learn how to play the game. Other tips: 1. Water kills Fire, Fire kills Wind, Wind kills Earth, Earth kills Water. I forgot the element of the griffin boss....use the appropriate magic against it. 2. For Grilgan, be aggressive with the HEALING. Play defensively and protect your characters as much as you can. 3. If you have a flare bomb, ground bomb or any other type of bomb, use it now. Don't worry, you'll find others in the game. 4. If you have an instant heal potion of some kind, use it. Again, don't worry, you'll get more later in the game. 5. For Bogim...
