Persona 4 Arena (PS3) Quick Review

Picked up Persona 4 Arena for the PS3 a few days ago. I've spent a little time with it and it's a great game. Atlus's Persona universe coupled with Arc System Works' grasp of fighting gameplay is a great combination. I only worry that this game will fall through the cracks, with TTT2 already due in a few weeks. Quick run through of my thoughts on it: The actual fighting game engine seems smoother than Blazblue, and the user interface is incredibly flashy. At times I find myself just admiring how good the UI is for this game. Really simple for starters. All characters get a 'Mash weak punch' combo....basically you can just press one button, and get your character to do cool things that end with a super combo. Really nice, at least for me....I've never played the arcade version so this makes it feel worthwhile even if you just play it casually. Story mode is done in Japanese 'Visual Novel' style. Will probably turn a lot of people off; it works f...

Review: LG Optimus One

THE BOX When I saw the box, I was thinking..."This is probably a mistake." I should probably just spend a little extra and get an HTC Desire. This phone was nearly 13,000 pesos at the store when I was about to buy it. Regretfully, I should have bought it from a different store I was in a few weeks ago where it was available for about 11,990 pesos. But it was difficult to make a decision on this. All the [online] research was basically saying, "Go big when buying an Android phone. Spending any less would be a mistake." Or, "Go buy an Iphone because it has all the nice games." (As a gamer, this part of the decision mattered a lot). Or, "Go buy an Ipad, it looks really cool." [Admittedly, it still does.] So why was I going to buy this? The box didn't really enchant me in any way. But I wasn't buying it for the box. I've done even more research on Android, and all the signs point to it being a major breakthrough that points to our digital...

Too Human: Too Soon

I finished Too Human a few days ago. I've been very busy lately (see previous posts....) so I haven't gotten around to posting my final thoughts on the game. Yesterday, we finally picked up Tales of Vesperia (ToV); it looks like I won't see that much action on the Xbox 360 anytime soon, because Wuffy has taken over and it doesn't look like she's letting go of that controller .... I am looking over my shoulder and admiring the graphics on ToV ....wow, we've reached the age where our games practically look and feel like 'controllable' anime. The game sure looks and sounds gorgeous! Presentation-wise, the game seems very cleanly done. But enough first impressions about ToV....it's best to comment on it once it has been played extensively, and that is for a future blog post (from Wuffy, of course). On to Too Human then... Perhaps I was too hasty early on. But that's how I am with games....I'm an optimist. I try not to see what's wrong with...

Devil May Cry 4 Review (Long overdue)

RATING: Go buy it, just don't expect an awesome story and enjoy it for what it is. I've been meaning to write a review for DMC4 for the Xbox 360 for a while now. For the time that I played it (before lending it off to my brother), I did enjoy the game, and played it for quite a while. I played starting directly in DEVIL HUNTER mode (I skipped Human mode entirely) then I finished the SON OF SPARDA mode a few days afterwards. Finishing SOS mode took about a week because I would intersperse playing SOS with the 'Bloody Palace' mode that gets unlocked after beating the game once. The thing that stood out for me the most about Devil May Cry 4 is the gameplay. At Devil Hunter mode, learning how to mix up attacks and combos is pretty important, especially in later levels when faced with tougher enemies like Angelos (who can block your attacks quite easily). The game has a system which lets you buy new abilities by earning Proud Souls. You get these after each level. You can a...
