The Year is Winding Down....

Yes, it's early (September), but it seems for me, for gaming, the year's winding down. We already have so much information on the games coming towards the end of the year that I feel my anticipation for new games is lessening lately. The only game I'm getting before the year ends is Forza Motorsport 3. I'll probably just rent Halo ODST because I'm getting the impression that it's just a quick-cash-in by Microsoft on their storied franchise (It doesn't help that Master Chief isn't in the game....)

I don't know if my enthusiasm for gaming is just waning, or I just feel generally unexcited for the coming lineup, for all systems (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii). Tekken 6....might not get it due to monetary concerns, and I was never a huge, huge tekken fan (I do respect the local scene for it, though). And I realized that I've played so much of Blazblue and Street Fighter IV that I'm thinking I need a break from fighting games in general.

More on PS3 Hardware Failures: AICN's Moriarty Hit By BDL

Earlier I posted about how the PS3 is no less susceptible to hardware problems. The issue was dubbed the 'BDL' (Blu-Ray Disc Laser problem) over on Pinoyxbox by the multi-console users in the community. You'd find a lot more information about this by searching for error 80010514 and 80029906. That said, I saw this post on AICN from Moriarty ....apparently he also got hit by the BDL problem. He had the console repaired by Sony, and when he got his replacement, he was hit by another problem: he encountered an issue while updating his PS3, causing his system to get bricked. I've uploaded the theme song for Lost Odyssey in YouTube. Check out the video below: At first, I wasn't so into the song but when I heard it in full it grows on you. Soulcalibur IV CPU AI in Versus Mode...

...is quite fun to play against. Set it to 'VERY HARD' difficulty and you've got a virtual sparring partner to play against if no local players are online to play against. The difficulty levels in VERSUS MODE for the AI are Easy, Normal, Hard, Very Hard, and Edge Master. "Very Hard" difficulty puts up a good fight, though since it is a CPU opponent it won't pull any surprises or weird tricks that human players usually do. I haven't gotten around to playing against 'Edge Master' difficulty but that's a personal decision because I don't want to get too stressed out playing the game. Practicing in VERSUS MODE against the AI is a great way to test out your own tricks and figure out some new ways to play. Of course, the best test of your own skills in Soulcalibur IV is to play against a human opponent, but when you can't find one (whether online or off), VERSUS MODE against AI is a nice alternative.
